Reeves Racing Toward NMRA Edelbrock Renegade

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
Soon after driving to a remarkable second place finish in NMRA ProCharger Coyote Modified points in 2014, Terry Beefcake Reeves delivered his 2011 Mustang to Rogue Race Cars to have its ten-point cage replaced with a 25.3 cage. He intended at the time to remain in the same category, but a few months into the project, he decided to shift his focus to NMRA Edelbrock Renegade, and while his cage was carefully being completed, he carefully studied his powerplant. His previous combination - featuring a BES-built Coyote 5.0 topped with BES-ported heads, MMR intake, Vortech V-7 JT-B supercharger, Rossler TH400 and ATF converter - was no doubt a stout package which helped deliver him to an 8.17 at 166 mph in 2014, but he felt that the change in categories called for a change in power-adders. So, he replaced his Vortech V-7 JT-B supercharger with a Vortech Renegade YSi supercharger, and Rogue Race Cars installed for him an ATF Gear Drive set-up and a new air-to-water intercooler, as well as custom tri-stepped headers. Reeves 2 The combination's former engine management system was replaced with a Holley EFI Dominator system installed and tuned by Finish Line Performance with an assist from Matt Bell of Red Line Motorsports. I chose Renegade because I wanted to go quicker, and with the ATF Gear Drive, we have other blower options if we want to go even quicker in other categories, said Reeves. In Renegade, I would love to go 7.70s or better, and in other categories, my goal is to ultimately run in the low sevens. Reeves car rolls on a Strange nine-inch rear-end, Strange front struts and Viking rear shocks. It's equipped with a Team Z Motorsports anti-roll bar, and the longtime driver is supported in his efforts by Team Beefcake Racing, Finish Line Performance, Stainless Works, UPR Products and Exedy Racing Clutch. He'll debut his new combination at the 8th Annual NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals presented by Miller Welders, April 7-10, 2016, at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. I have no idea how we'll manage that and how we'll run with no testing, but we'll be there, said Reeves. Reeves 3
