Roeben Ready for Street Outlaw Debut at NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
While Gary Roeben had been racing a 1999 Mustang GT powered by a turbocharged small-block Ford in X275 across the country, he debuted a 2004 Mustang Cobra at No Mercy in Georgia last fall. Built by Chad Epperson of London Chassis Dyno in Kentucky to accommodate the driver who is six feet and eight inches tall, the car features a BES-built 400ci small-block Ford on a steel Dart block topped with Visner Engine Development heads and billet intake. The 85mm Precision turbo in front gives it a kick. An M&M Transmission-built TurboGlide and billet Neal Chance converter help put power down in the car rolling on stock-style suspension with Racecraft and UPR components in addition to Santhuff's struts and shocks, and Roeben and Epperson use FuelTech to finesse a tune which Nick Bruder helped them design last year. Now, Roeben, who has soared to a best of 4.54 and 158 mph and is fresh off of competing in X275 at Prize Fight at Ohio Valley in Kentucky, has turned his focus to NMCA and NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw. He'll introduce himself and his car to the class at the 12th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 27-30 at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois. I'm very excited to be trying a different class and to start running with the NMRA and NMCA, said Roeben, of Naperville, Illinois, who has watched many cars go down track at Route 66 Raceway but has never gone down track there himself. While you can run a bigger turbo in these series than you can in X275, I plan to stick with the 85mm turbo and see how it goes. Roeben, who receives support from Epperson and a friend he simply calls Red, is aiming for 4.40s.
