Saleen Celebrates 40th Anniversary At NMRA’s Ford Homecoming
Four decades ago a man took his vision for a performance Mustang and drew it while sitting at his dinner table. From that sketch, Saleen Autosport was born, and founder Steve Saleen started a run of building performance vehicles that continues to this day. He and his company will celebrate that legacy at the 40thAnniversary Saleen Reunion during the NMRA Ford Homecoming event at Summit Motorsports Park from June 9-11.
“Both NMRA and Saleen were born during the Fox Mustang era and both are still in the game decades later,” Steve Wolcott, President and CEO of NMRA, said. “With that in mind, we couldn’t think of a better venue for Saleen fans to celebrate 40 years of Saleen performance vehicles at our big anniversary bash in Norwalk. Saleen vehicle owners can participate in a special Saleen car show with specific awards and there’s also drag & autocross funs segment for Saleen speed freaks.”
Over the decades Saleen created a popular line of performance Mustangs and other Ford-based vehicles, including Saleen versions of the Focus, Explorer, Ranger, and F-150 along with the Ford-powered Saleen S7 supercar. Many of those will be on hand at this reunion event along with a new member of the Saleen lineup — the SA40, a one-of-10 anniversary Mustang that will draw on cues from the company’s past and hint at what Saleen has in store for the S650 Mustang. There may even be a Saleen surprise for Fox Mustang fans at the event at well.
“Some people have told me that, other than the Ford Mustang itself and the Chevrolet Corvette, the Saleen Mustang is the longest continuous nameplate in North America. So the fact that it’s 40 continuous years marks a significant milestone. We will be celebrating it largely all the way up to the 40th anniversary of the Mustang and April of next year,” Saleen added.
