As teammates, Dwayne Barbaree and Russell Stone are a formidable force whether they're racing in NMCA Wiseco Street Outlaw, NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw or in other series, and they proved that as recently as the 22nd Annual Nitto NMRA Spring Break Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida in March.
There, Barbaree blasted to a win in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw and became the first driver to achieve 4.30s in the category with the 4.39 he laid down in Stone's black Fox body Mustang. What that did, among other things, is showcase their mad skills as well as the strength of their combination, which consists of a Precision turbo-fronted Kuntz and Company 400 cubic-inch small-block Ford and M&M Transmission-built three-speed Turbo 400.
As though that car wasn't enough of a threat, the team has acquired another car, which Stone will pilot alongside Barbaree in NMCA Wiseco Street Outlaw and NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw. Stone purchased it from longtime NMCA Quick Lane at Downs Ford NA 10.5 driver Ben Mens last fall, and spent the last several months putting his stamp on it.
Kuntz and Company, a business he purchased back in January, built an aluminum block-based 460 cubic-inch small-block Ford for it, and topped it with Edelbrock SC1 heads massaged by Kuntz and Company and a CFE sheetmetal intake. A Holley EFI system is in place, and while it would have been understandable for Stone to go with a turbo given his expertise tuning turbo combinations, he chose to go with a Speedtech nitrous set-up.
An M&M Transmission-built Powerglide spins under the car, which features AFCO shocks tweaked my Menscer Motorsports. Optic Armor performance windows were installed, and the car, which previously had a wrap on it, was painted black by Johnny's Custom Paint and Hot Rod Shop.
Stone recently made several test passes to the 330 foot mark to shake the car down at Holly Springs Motorsports Park in Mississippi, and while he declines to share early numbers, he will say that it went well.
The new car drives great, said Stone, of Eldorado, Arkansas, who had Mickey Thompson 29.5 drag radials on the car while testing but will switch to Mickey Thompson 275 drag radials. We'll creep up on the tune, but it's going to be a good, solid car with a lot of potential. I want to try to run toward the front of NMCA and NMRA Street Outlaw with a small-block nitrous combination, and hopefully, we'll achieve that. We have to get everything dialed in, but we should be fast when we do.

And while Stone also declines to share numbers from Barbaree's test passes, he teases that the car should be faster than ever.
