We had a bit of rain overnight, but the NMRA and NMCA staff was up bright and early this morning to start the drying process. Today's forecast is looking good, teams are busy getting ready for eliminations, and we expect to be rockin' and rollin' shortly. Here's Michael Washington showing off his coveted Bo Butner socks while Michael Galimi shows his support of the wardrobe selection. ;) Andy Manson continues to dominate the Vortech/VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw category with his ProCharger-blown ride. Last month, he stomped the NMRA field with consistent low 4.30s and set both records with a 4.29 and high speed of 171 mph. This outing, he has run under the national ET record with a top qualifying run of 4.28. Manson also took home the Street Outlaw All-Star Showdown title for a $1,000 bonus. The All-Star Showdown brought together four competitors from NMRA and four from NMCA for an 8-car field. The field was comprised of the top two in points from 2017, a randomly selected third entry, and a fourth chosen by the 2017 champions. The supercharged machine beat Daniel Pharris in a crazy final round where both racers ran 4.30; Manson got the win light thanks to a superior reaction time. Eliminations are underway as the NMRA/NMCA track crew worked hard to get the drag strip ready for competition after an overnight rain storm. The weather is considerably cooler than normal and the first "record" of the day came from Terry "Beefcake" Reeves in his 2018 Mustang GT. Jon Lund II of Lund Racing has been working hard to get control of the transmission calibration for the 10-speed automatic box. His continuing efforts have enabled Reeves to unleash a 9.60 at 144 mph, the quickest and fastest run with a 2018 Mustang GT. The new model Mustang features the new transmission setup as well as Direct Injection, creating some challenges in the tuning department. The engine is pumped up by a Vortech YSi-B supercharger and makes over 1,000rwhp on the chassis dyno. After competing in Holley EFI Factory Super Cars at the NMCA season opener in Bradenton, Florida, Eric Bardekoff of Commack, New York, recently made a few changes to his 2016 Cobra Jet Mustang to run in ProCharger Coyote Modified this weekend. They included a switch to a Whipple 2.9L supercharger, cold-air intake, and a smaller blower pulley to increase boost pressure by 2 psi. Bardekoff reported a two-tenths improvement from those changes, and is hoping further adjustments will get the number 6 qualifier down from the 8.3s to the 8.2s during eliminations. Chad Stephens of Caistor Center, Ontario, Canada dusted off this former drag radial-spec Thunderbird after a 12-year slumber so they could drop in a sealed Coyote crate engine in it and go G-Force Transmission Coyote Stock racing this season. The 'bird packs a Gen II crate engine backs by a G-Force G101A four-speed transmission, and Stephens told us he's more than happy with the 10.50 elapsed time he ran to qualify 9th in the field. This is the first track appearance for the team, so their getting seat time and learning from the friendly fellow Coyote Stock racers.
