mg1_9219-copyKing of the Outlaws Tim Oswalt will forever be known as the winner of the inaugural ididit Outlaw True Street shootout. The Tennessean brought his 2003 SVT Cobra to the NMRA World Finals and entered both the VMP Performance Terminator vs. GT500 Shootout and the ididit Outlaw True Street classes. He ran 8.25 at just 128 mph to put his car fifth in the 24-car field. But the real show for Oswalt was the eighth-mile No Time heads up race on Saturday night. Of course we don't know his performances due to the No Time status but he mowed down a few turbocharged Coyotes before meeting Raul Torres in the final round. Oswalt went A-to-B on the run as Torres carried the wheels for 330 feet before lifting as the car crossed the centerline. Oswalt walked away with the $2,500 winning prize in the fast-paced fan-favorite category upr_ecoboost_recordThere is a new sheriff in EcoBoost-town as Bill Putnam of UPR Products went to the top of the Livernois Motorsports EcoBoost Battle and he set a record in the process. The car was fresh off back-to-back victories in NMRA competition and he stepped up big this event. A Lund Racing tuned combination knocked off a stellar 10.24 at 134 mph to sit on top of the eight-car field. That bests the previous all-time EcoBoost drag racing record of 10.39 that Brad Gusler set earlier this year. dsc_0191-copySeven-heaven Jake Contant finally grabbed his first 7-second run in his 2003 SVT Cobra during the last round of qualifying. His Bullseye turbocharged Four-Valve Modular motor helped push the specialty Mustang to a 7.97 at 166 mph. He currently sits third in VMP Performance Terminator vs. GT500 Shootout in the 24-car field. spectatorsThe bleachers are packed full of hardcore race fans ready to see NMRA's finest battle it out for crucial last-minute championship points and crowds have gathered at prime locations for a better view. barbareeEarlier this week, while testing at Holly Springs in Mississippi, VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw driver Dwayne Barbaree brushed the wall with his Kuntz and Company powered Mustang upwards of 130 mph. The incident bent the car's axle so much that the guys had to put it in the ice chest and had to stick the bearing in their cookout grill in order to get it all back together. Additionally, Barbaree ran over the right side bullhorn and completely flattened it more beating and hammers were able to pry it back into shape. Although the Mustang won't win any car show awards, Barbaree and owner Russell Stone are getting things done here in Bowling Green. mccartyIt's same stuff, different day for Jacky McCarty of McCarty Performance. McCarty recently refreshed the turbocharged 400 ci small block Ford power plant topped with billet cylinder heads in his 91 Mustang, but the VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw racer says his car was angry on its first qualifying hit as the track wouldn't hold its power and didn't perform like it should have. dsc_9714-copySubstitute Driver Joel Greathouse was a last minute addition to the roster for Charles Hull Racing. The local drag racing legend was put into the driver's seat prior to qualifying; he has driven the car on multiple occasions this season so Greathouse is familiar with the view behind the wheel. The KBX Performance built ride unleashed the quickest and fastest run in the history of the category to top the VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw qualifying sheet. The red rocket launched to a 4.34 at 170 mph as he topped the 17-car field. He needs to back up that performance within one-percent in order for it to become an official record. UPDATE: Greathouse dropped a 4.37 and if no one tops that number, it will be the new Street Outlaw. nick-shortridgeHeading into the NMRA World Finals all Nick Shortridge wanted to do was run in the 8-second zone. On the outside, that doesn't sound like a hard accomplishment for a twin-turbocharged Terminator. The shocker is in the details Shortridge slams the gears of a Tremec T56 six-speed and he still has an IRS out back! Going 8s with a stick/IRS Mustang is a feat that had not been accomplished heading into the weekend. Shortridge can head home to San Antonio knowing that he is the first and only to accomplish that task. He entered QA1 True Street with the hopes of qualifying for the Tremec Stick Shift Shootout. In the final run for True Street, he nailed the shifts perfectly to run a best of 8.94 at 170 mph. He also qualified for the Tremec Stick Shift Shootout, which will run later in the day. brad-medlock_235_record_nmraBrad Medlock showed up to the NMRA World Finals with one goal to reset the 235 Radial record, which stood at 4.624. To do so he spent two days working on the car at TS Performance, which is located down the road from Beech Bend Raceway. The team, with crew chief Barry Phillippi leading the way, swapped in a new Pro Torque EV1 converter and installed a Precision Pro Mod 98mm turbocharger. They fell short in qualifying, even during the night session with optimal conditions, by running a 4.65 at 162 mph. In the opening round of competition in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw he would unleash a new record for the tiny 235 Radial tire crowd. Medlock posted a 4.623 better the old record by just .001! The short time on the awesome run was a sick 1.18 sixty-foot time. Medlock remains in competition and the team is turning up the power a bit more on the Kuntz and Company powerplant. UPDATE Medlock did it again! He lowered the record down to 4.615 at 160.81 mph. drew-lyonsIt all comes down to E2! Drew Lyons, the current NMRA Coyote Stock points leader, picked up a win in the first round of eliminations. If he can turn on the win lights again in the next round, he'll secure the 2016 title. If not, he'll leave the door wide open for Carlos Sobrino to steal the honors if he can manage to win the entire event. harold_horton_win_maple_grove_nmraIt was a two-for-one race for Harold Horton as he was scheduled to complete the final round from the WyoTech Ford Motorsport Nationals that got rained out earlier this year. He nailed down the victory when his competitor, Ricky Lapinski, wasn't able to make the lane call. Horton took the green and rolled into the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle. He advanced in round one of VMP Performance Terminator vs. GT500 Shootout. bret_stabler_turbo_coyote_bbrBret Stabler set the pace in Henchmen Racing Turbo Coyote Shootout when he qualified on top with a 4.96 at 145 mph. Each round the head wrench at Blow-By Racing, Chris Jones, has kept putting a little more into Stabler's twin-turbocharged 2012 Mustang GT through the AEM Infinity stand-alone EFI system. The car sports a Hellion Power Systems twin turbo kit with upgraded turbochargers. He is heading to the semifinals thanks to a 4.93 at 147 mph run to eliminate Jon Jacobs. That comes off a 4.95 at 146 mph to open eliminations. Stabler faces Ronnie Reynolds in a much-anticipated pairing. Justin Jordan has a bye-run to the final round to face the winner of the Stabler-Reynolds competition. QA1 True Street Results Tremec Stick Shift Shootout LATEST ELIMINATION ROUND RESULTS!
