Super-Powered Shelbys Square Off In Orlando At The NMRA Season Opener

Santa Ana, California [January 4, 2023] — Adding to the excitement of the NMRA Spring Break Shootout at Orlando Speed World in Orlando, Florida, the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals is hosting the 2020+ Shelby GT500 Shootout during the Spring Break Shootout over the weekend of March 2-5, 2023. This special class is designed to bring out the quickest 2020+ Shelby GT500s on the planet.

Ford’s most powerful Mustang yet, the 760-horsepower 2020-2022 Shelby GT500 was an instant hit with enthusiasts. Packing the ability to run 10-second times off the showroom floor and easily dip into the single digits with modes modifications, these Predator-powered machines are capable of producing huge power, blasting down the drag strip, and making the drive home with all the creature comforts.

“The latest Shelby GT500s are some of the most incredible cars on the road, and they’re even more exciting when modified to race on the quarter-mile,” Steve Wolcott, President and CEO of NMRA, said. “We can’t wait to see the level of performance they can achieve, and there’s no better place to showcase that performance than the first race of our 25th Anniversary season.”

With backing from leaders in the GT500 community — including Coastal Chassis Dyno & Performance, Palm Beach Dyno, Beefcake Racing, ZPE GripTec — the 2020+ GT500 Shootout will encompass both street-driven and all-out competition machines with the GT500 Street and GT500 Unlimited categories. Both classes are all-run, quarter-mile competitions with the Street class competing with a 10.10 Index with a .10 breakout rule, while Unlimited class runs on a 9.10 Index with a .10 breakout rule.

NMRA will present the winner with $2,000 and an NMRA Victor award, while the runner-up will receive $500 and a plaque in both the Street and Unlimited categories, but racers can only compete in one of the two 2020+ GT500 Shootout classes.

The classes are open to any VIN-verified 2020 through 2022 Shelby GT500. The NHRA safety rules are in effect and allow vehicles with fully functioning factory safety equipment and proper driver equipment. Aftermarket roll bars will infringe on the operation of factory safety systems and competitors should contact the NMRA Tech department at [email protected] with any questions about the safety requirements for their vehicles.
