SVTPerformance Supercharges The 30th Anniversary SVT Reunion At Norwalk
Created by Ford Motor Company to engineer halo performance vehicles that would have a trickle-down effect of adding excitement to the company’s full vehicle lineup, Ford created the Special Vehicle Team. Embarking on that mission, known internally as “polishing the oval,” SVT released its first vehicles, which included the Mustang Cobra and F-150 Lightning, with the 1993 model year. Some 30 years later, SVTPerformance.com and NMRA will reunite SVT vehicles and owners during the NMRA Ford Homecoming event at Summit Motorsports Park from June 9-11.
“Much like SVT, NMRA embraced Ford vehicles at their highest level of performance. Those vehicles helped us deliver events that excited and enthralled Blue Oval enthusiasts for a quarter century,” Steve Wolcott, President and CEO of NMRA, said. “It is only fitting that, as part of the 2023 season’s 25th Anniversary celebration, we reunite the SVT community for its 30th Anniversary as part of our Mickey Thompson NMRA Ford Homecoming in Norwalk.”
To polish the oval, SVT engineers developed vehicles that embodied four core traits: Performance, Substance, Exclusivity, and Value. Over the years, that resulted in a wide range of performance variants. Those included 1993 Mustang Cobras, 1993 Mustang Cobra Rs, 1993-1995 Lightnings, 1994-1995 Mustang Cobras, 1995 Mustang Cobra Rs, 1996-1998 Mustang Cobras, 1998-2000 SVT Contours, 1999-2001 Mustang Cobras, 2000 Mustang Cobra Rs, 1999-2004 F-150 Lightnings, 2003-2004 Mustang Cobras, 2002-2004 SVT Focus, 2005-2006 Ford GTs, 2010-2014 F-150 Raptors, and 2007-2014 Shelby GT500s.
Owners of those vehicles can participate in a variety of ways, including a dedicated car show or entries that include the car show and autocross or drag racing runs. Participants will enjoy a Saturday afternoon happy hour provided by SVTPerformance.com under the NMRA car show tent, and fans can enjoy a variety of vehicles from a wonderful chapter in Ford’s performance history. And, there might just be some SVT alumni on hand to check out the fruits of their labors.
