Kelly Shotwell has completed a host of updates to his SN95 Mustang for VP Racing Madditives Renegade competition, starting with a new bullet from MPR Racing engines. After experiencing head gasket issues with the previous engine, Shotwell had MPR build a dry-deck short-block with a higher compression ratio, and will continue to rely on the Vortech V-30 supercharger for boost and his Holley EFI for engine management. Gary Rohe also cut the front end off the car and converted it to a tubular front end to save some weight. Next, Shotwell turned to Martin Connelley to have his plot the suspension and dial in the Menscer Motorsport struts and shocks. Shotwell's Mustang, which he calls Betty White, recently received the Golden Girl's likeness engraved on the top of the intake manifold as a tribute.
Tim Matherly and Jason Sloan had put off working on the GForce Racig Transmissions Coyote Stock ride prior to the race so of course, that meant working on the car when they unloaded it here at World Wide Technology Raceway. The clutch needed a little adjustment, and even though it’s hard to tell in today’s heat if it helped or not.
Tim Donathen and Randy Soper had the Quick Lane going this morning, checking and changing fluids in Donathen’s GForce Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock wagon. For his first pass during test and tune, Donathen ran a 9.96 in the heat of the day. Soper, running against Donathen, also ran a 9.96.
Mike Ciborowski and son Keith recently put some laps on their S197 Mustang in Ultra Street competition, but detected some valve float and decided to pull the engine and drop it off to its builder, Rich Groh, at RGR Racing Engines. Groh swapped out the valve springs and also detected a failing head gasket, got the engine squared away, and Team Kubota threw the engine back in last night so they could compete this weekend in VP Racing Madditives Renegade class. They also swapped on a set of Menscer Motorsport struts and shocks that just showed up, as well as a new Protorque EV2 converter.

GForce Racing Transmissions Jacob Lamb added a new clutch with a couple different ideas he is working on with Ram Clutches. “Trying a couple new ideas and I’m not sure if they’re going to work, but we gotta try.” His first pass didn't turn out so well, but by the end of test and tune, it was going in the right direction.
