Veteran Racer Barry Shepard Passes Away at 83

The ProMedia team is sad to report the passing of Barry Shepard at 83. Barry was a long-time drag racer from the Detroit area who set several IHRA national records, competed in many Ford events, including NMRA, and was the 1999 Fun Ford Weekend world championship in the Modular Motor category.

Barry was a 3-sport athlete at Dearborn’s Edsel Ford High School in football, basketball and track. Following High School he served four years in the Navy as a parachute rigger.

Barry had a 30-year career at Ford Motor Company and spent much of his free time racing. He was an ambassador for Ford Racing and towed his Mustang around the country to race or display at a show. He was constantly testing Ford Racing parts on his Ford Mustang, helping with the R&D of new products. In 1996 he met Roxanne, who later became his wife of 25 years. Roxanne also competes in NMRA with her familiar yellow “Tweety” Mustang.

Barry was always willing to help fellow racers or offer words of encouragement. He will be missed by everyone. Our deepest condolences go out to the Roxanne and the Shepard family.
