It should be no surprise that the Arrington Performance NMRA/NMCA All-American Nationals Presented by Force Engineering was going to be a different one. The extravanganza was originally scheduled to go down at Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk, OH) but when they decided to remain closed for the 2020 season, NMRA and NMCA officials shifted the event over to the prestigious US 131 Motorsports Park (Martin, MI). The All-American Nationals was super special this year because it is hosting the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals on top of the Chevrolet Performance COPO Camaro Shootout Presented by COPO Parts Direct and the Ford Performance Cobra Jet Showdown Presented by Watson Racing and everything else that makes the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals one of the leading sanctioning bodies in the country.
The pits are filled nearly to the end of the facility as well over 500 cars registered as of Thursday. Test and Tune is scheduled for today with qualifying kicking off tomorrow morning. Follow along on the website and social media to keep up with the action. FloSports/SpeedVideo are also handling the Live Feed this weekend if you’re unable to come out to US 131 Motorsports Park—<Click for Feed>
Keith Rhea made the long haul from Wonder Racing’s headquarters in Pennsylvania to US 131 Motorsports Park. He brought along his gnarly 2004 Mustang Cobra and is entered in VP Racing Maddatives/Mickey Thompson Street Outlaw. The Cobra sports a 5.4L Modular engine powerplant that was built at Wonder Racing. Providing boost is a Bullseye Power NLX 88mm turbocharger, which features a true ball bearing cardridge. Last time we saw Rhea was back in March during the Spring Break Shootout where he launched his way into the 4.50s, despite an electrical gremlin. The team is gunning for the 4.30s in the heat and maybe quicker with cool weather predicted for Saturday’s qualifying runs.
JDM Engineering Limited Street is being dominated by Bill Putnam of UPR Products and his side-kick Sharad Radiris, who happens to be the 2019 NMRA Crew Chief of the Year. The duo have literally been unstoppable as they’ve won the first four events of 2020. The car sports a nasty Coyote 5.0L engine that has been fitted with a VMP Superchargers Gen 3 blower. The Gen 3 relies on a set of EATON Performance TVS 2650 rotor package. Putnam is close to clinching his first-ever NMRA championship and only needs to win a few rounds on Sunday to seal it up. And for those wondering, those are 2020 GT500 valve covers, which Putnam says are way more durable the standard 5.0 versions. Our biggest question, why is there an OEM oil cap on the passenger side and not a polished UPR version of it?
She drives exceptionally well. She fabricates parts and welds stuff. She builds engines. Now Haley James is displacing her dad, Dwayne James, on the keyboard of the Hellion Racing B-Team’s Edelbrock Renegade entry. We told Haley to run all of the timing and lean it out, but her dad taught her not to listen to people like us. The new ride has sent the team on an up and down roller coaster ride and just 36 hours ago there wasn’t even an engine between the framerails. They slipped in a new Coyote bullet and hit the road from the team’s new Indy race shop to get here before the gates closed yesterday.
Rodney Ragen rolled into US 131 Motorsports this weekend and he brought along his Ultra Street Mustang to compete in Edelbrock Xtreme Street/Renegade combo category. His first hit during testing resulted in an impressive 4.75, the second quickest run for the category that round. A Bennett Racing 400U engine is bolted into the Fox Mustang and a ProCharger F-1A-94 provides the boost while John Kolivas (right) tunes the engine using a FuelTech FT600.
