A Legacy Returns Stifflers Backs Gateway Rumble Heads-Up True Street Racing

Posted By: Mike Galimi
In the mid-1990s the Mustang community gathered at Gateway Motorsports Park for what was known as the Gateway Rumble. It was the second heads-up Mustang street race that was modeled after the highly successful Spring Break Shootout. In 2019, the NMRA racing officials are bringing the street car chaos of the Gateway Rumble back to Gateway Motorsports Park with backing from the chassis component manufacturer Stifflers. The Stifflers Gateway Rumble goes down May 16-19, 2019 at Gateway Motorsports Park and it holds true to the same format as the Spring Break Shootout. The QA1 True Street competition on Saturday will serve as qualifying for Sunday's heads-up eliminator. "We are excited about the opportunity to sponsor the inaugural Stifflers Gateway Rumble class. The class will provide some great racing and excitement for both the competitors and spectators, said Brian Figg of Stifflers. We look forward to making this an annual event with the NMRA! The Stifflers Gateway Rumble class is a heads-up Quick 16 format race that will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2019. The Gateway Rumble race will be open to the quickest 16 cars that run in QA1 True Street on Saturday, May 18th. To be eligible for the Gateway Rumble class competitors must meet True Street rules, compete in the True Street class on Saturday, and make all three True Street passes. The 16 competitors who have the fastest 3-pass averages will be placed on a sportsman ladder and will race heads-up on a 4/10 Pro-tree. The winner of the Gateway Rumble will take home $800 cash, a Baer Brakes SS4+ Deep Stage Drag Racing Kit worth around $1,000, a prestigious NMRA Victor award, and a celebration fitting of a champion in the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle. There are also two opportunities for racers to qualify for the IDIDIT Performance King of the Street competition that goes down during the Nitto Tire NMRA All-Ford World Finals at the end of the year. The next two spots will be awarded to the Overall Winner of True Street on Saturday and the last racer standing on Sunday during the Gateway Rumble competition. The exclusive King of the Street competition is an invitation-only heads-up race to determine who is the baddest True Street racer of the year.
