By Mary Lendzion Photos courtesy of Bob Williams The NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw category is packed with powerful cars and combinations, and its drivers are more determined by the day. Just as determined is Bob Williams, who's preparing to compete in the category beginning with the 26th Annual Nitto NMRA Spring Break Shootout, Feb. 27-March 1 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida. To get started, Williams, who co-owns Boosted Fabrication and Performance in Maryland with Ronnie Reynolds, turned his former street car, a beautiful black 2016 Mustang, over to DMC Racing in Massachusetts to have it outfitted with a 25.3 cage and a custom four-link rear suspension. [gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="14241,14242"] DMC Racing also fabricated custom carbon fiber wheel tubs, mounted a one-piece carbon fiber frontend from Feather Carbon and installed a carbon fiber wing and trunk lid from Modular Motorsports Racing (MMR) before the car, which rolls on a Strange 9-inch rear-end, axles and brakes, made its way to Boosted Fabrication and Performance. There, Reynolds mounted carbon fiber doors from MMR, and will soon mount a carbon fiber dash from MMR. Now, Williams is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the engine that will go under the hood of his hot rod, a Rich Groh Racing-built 5.0 Coyote on an Accufab billet block featuring a Callies crank, Diamond pistons and Oliver rods, and topped with Coyote heads and a ported Plazmaman billet intake and 102mm throttle body. Atomizer injectors and a Rage Fuel Systems fuel pump also are in place. When Accufab produced this billet block, we got the second one, said Williams. The engine will be enhanced by a Garrett 88mm turbo massaged by Forced Inductions and NLR AMS-2000 boost controller, and a Proformance Racing Transmissions-built Turbo 400 and ProTorque converter will tackle the transfer of power to the pavement for the car riding on Mickey Thompson drag radials wrapped around Weld wheels. The car has an electrical control system by SpeedWire Systems and an AEM carbon digital dash, and Williams and Reynolds will use an AEM Infinity system to tune the combination. The car has an appointment with Maryland Collision, where black paint will be professionally applied on its new one-piece carbon fiber front-end. In addition to joining NMRA VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw ranks, Williams, who also has had help with the car from fellow racer Scott Wayne, plans to run X275 at various events and in the Outlaw Street Car Shootout Series at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland. We're anxious to get the car going, get a handle on it and get it dialed in, said Williams. From there, we hope to be able to go as fast as possible and to be competitive.
