Drag Racing and Thrill Show Set for NMCA and NMRA Return to Rockingham for the All Star Nationals presented by Sipple’s Speed & Performance

In just three short years, the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals at historic Rockingham Dragway has become a “must attend” event for any automotive enthusiast. This year, the action takes place April 11-14, and it will mark the official kick off of the Red Line Oil NMCA Drag Racing Series for 2024.

Everyone will enjoy Saturday’s Top of the Rock Thrill Festival presented by Innovation Performance Technologies that provides a premium experience for NMRA/NMCA fans. Rockingham Dragway features a unique layout with an elevated concrete grandstand that lines the spectator side of the quarter-mile. That space is home to the Top of the Rock Thrill Festival, which is home to the UPR Products Car Show, the legendary BIGFOOT, the world’s best known monster truck, plus BMX stunt show, and interactive displays where fans can win free prizes.

This will be the first chance for NMCA racers to earn points in the following championship classes; VP Racing Lubricants Pro Mod, Holley EFI Factory Super Cars, Dart N/A 10.5, ARP Nitrous Pro Street, Edelbrock Xtreme Street, Scoggin Dickey Parts Center Street Warrior 10.10 presented by Chevrolet Performance, Micro Strategies Super Stock, Micro Strategies Stock, Nostalgia Super Stock, Magnafuel Open Comp, Erson Cams Nostalgia Muscle presented by World Products, LME Street King presented by Chevrolet Performance, and Proform Rumble.

Racers who compete in the above classes understand the importance of getting off to a fast start as they gun for championships in the six-race Red Line Oil NMCA Drag Racing Series. Last year, the championships in Holley EFI Factory Super Car, Quick Fuel Technology Nostalgia Super Stock, and Magnafuel Open Comp were each decided by 205 points or less, further highlighting the need for racers to put their best foot forward early in the season. The Rockingham race will mark the first time the series has kicked off a season in North Carolina, another variable that racers must consider.

In addition to the Top of the Rock Thrill Festival, Saturday’s program will highlight many of the fastest and most consistent street cars in the area with the Circle D Specialties True Street class along with the Dodge Direct Connection Shootout and HHP Racing Hemi Quick 8 for late-model Dodge and Dodge-powered muscle cars.

True Street is an extremely popular feature with a unique format that includes a 30-mile drive followed by three consecutive quarter-mile passes in order to determine who has the quickest and most consistent street-legal cars in the country. The top two elapsed time averages are recognized along with the drivers who come closest to the 9.00, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00, 13.00, 14.00, and 15.00 elapsed time breaks. As an added bonus, any driver who wins a true street race and uses Nitto NT555RII drag radial tires, will be eligible for a bonus of up to $1,000.

In addition, fast street cars are showcased in the Drag and Drive Invitational, hosted by Tom Bailey, who has run in the five-second range at over 250 mph with his street-legal, turbocharged Camaro. Bailey will be joined by several of the sport’s quickest street-legal racers in a special shootout-type event.

As if that wasn’t enough, the All Star Nats hosts special features including jet dragsters, a large manufacturer’s midway, and action at every turn.

The 16th Annual All-Star Nationals Presented by Sipple’s Speed & Performance represented the third time the NMRA and NMCA series’ have visited Rockingham Dragway. It will also host Mustang Day, which celebrates 60 years of this iconic platform on Saturday with extra special car show classes as well as a Mustang Day True Street race category… just for Ford Mustangs! There will be collectible goodie bag to first 500 participants.

The track is ready with a multi-million-dollar renovation project that included a new racing surface. Last year’s event was noticeably larger than the inaugural race in 2022 and It’s a safe bet that fan-friendly activities such as the Top of the Rock Thrill Festival will continue to play a significant role in fueling growth.
