Foxbody Fever—Brayden Creamer is Loving His 10-Second Mustang GT

At just 18 years of age, NMRA racer Brayden Creamer has big goals. The Vincennes University freshman has set his path on becoming an airline pilot and he’s already accumulated 80 hours flying a Cirrus SR 20 aircraft as a student pilot.
But when he’s not at the controls of the Cirrus, or studying for class, he can be found at the controls of his 1985 Ford Mustang GT. The clean Foxbody caught our eye at the recent NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Muscle Car Drag Racing in St. Louis so we sought out the student for a closer look.
Creamer, of Floyds Knob, In. is the son of Coyote Stock racers Greg and Julie Creamer, so racing is clearly in his blood. And despite his young age, he told us he prefers Fox Mustangs. “I always wanted to race a Foxbody and I like ARP Open Comp because you have to qualify and set your own index,” he said. “It’s a very competitive class and part of the challenge is setting up to get close to the one-tenth difference in index.”
Motivating the red GT is a 408 Windsor that’s been treated to Trick Flow Specialties (TFS) Hi-Port heads with an Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake and a SP Carbs 4150-style carburetor feeding the VP 110 gas. The small-block is backed by a 4,800-rpm stall converter and a Turbo 400 3-speed transmission. His Fox was upgraded with an 8.8-inch rear and it now sports 3.73 gears and 31-spline Moser axles. Other important components include QA-1 coilover struts, Strange shocks and an AJE K-member.
The little Ford leaves hard and consistently runs in the 10s, with a best of 10.79 at 124 mph. Having missed the first race, Creamer currently sits in 18th place, but with three events to go he has a shot to crack the top 10.
