Guertin Goes Even Faster in Testing with MPR and ATF On-Board

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
Despite the fact that 2015 was Joe Guertin's first year in NMRA ProCharger Coyote Modified, he put himself on the map by flying to an 8.21 and finishing seventh in points, but it's his recent test session that's attracting even more attention. He laid down a 7.87 at 172 mph at Orlando Speed World Dragway, with temperatures in the mid-50s and 62 percent humidity, on Feb. 7, 2016, in his CRE Performance-sponsored four-eye Mustang featuring a 305 cubic-inch Coyote engine by Tim Eichhorn of MPR Racing Engines, Slawko heads, Boss 302 intake and ProCharger F1A. He had recently replaced his C4 and former converter with a Powerglide and new converter by Jason Gatlin of ATF Speed, who had helped him remedy a blower belt breakage issue early in 2015. He also had recently removed 100 pounds from the car after class rules were altered. It's because of the durability upgrades Tim made to my engine last season, the Glide Jason built and the fact that I took 100 pounds off the car that I was able to run what I did, said Guertin, who has proven what he meant when he said in 2015 that he was going into beast mode. With help from crew chief, Chet Caminita, whom he calls Da Man, and tuning by Cal Hartline, the Deputy Sheriff Supervisor who lives in Florida will'stay-put in the class where the current records are the 8.18 and 166 mph reigning champion Haley James ran. Guertin 2He'll begin his run for the ring with the 22nd Annual NMRA Nitto Spring Break Shootout, March 3-6, 2016, at Bradenton Motorsports Park. I love the class, the people in the class and going fast, said Guertin.
