On Saturday, we saw the largest QA1 True Street class in the history of the NMRA with 152 cars entered. After the three runs had been averaged, Randy Seward (pictured above) drove his Calypso Green, twin-turbocharged notchback Mustang to a three-run average of 8.37 seconds. Eliminations Results <<<<HERE>>>> This weekend is turning out to be a record-setting one in all sorts of ways. Yesterday during qualifying, Haley James and her turbocharged Mustang coupe established the time to beat in ProCharger Coyote Modified with a 7.59 elapsed time, and backed up the class record today with a 7.6-second performance in round one. One issue that popped up during qualifying was a chucking of the left rear tire, so the team opted to modify the rear quarter panel to provide a little more clearance in case that was the problem. Just when everyone thought the time to beat in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw was something in the 4.3s, Andy Manson came out in the first round and let it all hang out, posting an incredible 4.29-second elapsed time at 171.59 mph. The record is the quickest time in either the NMRA or the NMCA Street Outlaw competition. G-Force Racing Coyote Stock's Darin Hendricks of Centerpoint, Indiana, qualified number one yesterday with a 10.14 and a beastly 132 mph trap speed. His 21,000-mile 1993 Cobra is packing a Gen II Coyote powerplant, and is hoping to set the class record for the third year in a row at this event. His 10.09 in the first round of eliminations should seal the deal provided it stands for the rest of the event. Multi-time Fun Ford Weekend champion Robert Hindman was looking to find some sun and fun on vacation, and found his way to Bradenton Motorsports Park where he's competing in the bracket classes this weekend. His ride is the same championship-winning machine he's had for years, but repainted and upgraded mechanically with a 450-plus-inch engine and a svelte race weight. In the second round of qualifying of the brand new Steeda Limited Street class, Justin Jordan set the pace after uncorking an 8.68 from Larry Starost's 2013 Roush Mustang. Not to be outdone, Carlisle, Ohio's Kelly Shotwell (pictured above), who won the first running of the class at last year's season finale, put the hottest tuneup ever in his 1995 Mustang. The result was a number-one qualifying run of 8.61 at 158 mph. Shotwell's crew, consisting of brothers Casey and Cary Shotwell, and crew chief Bo Webb, installed a new Holley Dominator EFI system over the winter, along with some rear beadlock wheels after noticing the rear tires were spinning on the wheels. "We knew a Coyote car would give us the most trouble," said Shotwell. "There should be a couple more of them in Atlanta, so we'll see." Two-time Roush Performance Super Stang champion Marvin Knack qualified number one with a perfect reaction time and made it past the first round of competition this weekend. For 2018, Knack picked up sponsorship from Stifflers Chassis and Suspension products, giving his dark blue Mustang a much different look thanks to the sponsor wrap. Making the trek from Canada, Jeff Bloem and his team placed second in QA1 True Street competition yesterday, and have made it past the first round in the Spring Break Shootout. With some help from JB Weld, the team is making a few last minute changes to the turbocharged Mustang. When he's not cooking the competition on the track, Detroit Locker Truck and Lightning racer Wade Trammell cooks up some mean hamburgers, too. Class record holder Darin Hendricks was poised to go rounds in G-Force Racing Coyote Stock having qualified on top of the class, but young Tyler Eichhorn put a hurtin' on him at the tree with a perfect .000 light during the second round of eliminations and grabbed the holeshot win.
