Thursday Coverage | RYNO Classifieds NMRA Spring Break Shootout

In the blink of an eye, the off-season is over, and racers rolled into a new location to kick off the Holley NMRA Ford Nationals season. It isn’t just any season that opens at Orlando Speed World this weekend, however. This is the 25th Anniversary season of NMRA, and it starts in style this weekend in sunny Florida.

Not only does the full slate of index and heads-up drag racing run this weekend, but several specialty events take place within the event. That exciting action includes the All-Female True Street class (running alongside Circle D Specialties True Street for the first time at the season opener), the TransTec Fox-Body reunion (supported by the experts at Foxy Events) as well as the 2020+ Shelby GT500 Shootout presented by Coastal Dyno, Palm Beach Dyno, Beefcake Racing, and ZPE GripTec.

Additionally, the quickest True Street machines will compete on Sunday in the legendary BBK Performance Spring Break Shootout, while the quicked manual-trans True Street racers will graduate to the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout on Sunday.

Before that goes down, the action builds to a crescendo on Saturday as the RTR Vehicles crew led by Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Chelsea Denofa come to slay tires on the OSW drift pad while Shane England debuts his latest Big Kahuna Monster Truck. Also on Saturday, more than 30 drifters will run during the first-ever Competition Clutch Ford Drift invitational, and the day will close with a massive, Australian-style burnout contest.

Before we get to all that excitement, today’s action kicked off with test ’n tune runs for the drag-racing competitor and closes with the Weldon Racer Appreciation Happy Hour in the evening. Stay tuned to this page and our social outlets for coverage throughout the weekend.
Here is how the action is set to go down today during the first day of the 29th Annual RYNO Classifieds NMRA Spring Break Shootout Presented by Nitto Tire.

A great crowd of racers, crew, media, and industry folks gathered for the the Weldon Racer Appreciation Happy Hour that closed down the festivities on Thursday evening.

Some of the most potent, Predator-powered machines are on the property this weekend at Orlando Speed World competing in the 2020+ Shelby GT500 Shootout presented by Coastal Dyno, Palm Beach Dyno, Beefcake Racing, and ZPE GripTec. If you love seeing these modern marvels fly down the track, you can watch them compete for big cash prizes in both the GT500 Street and GT500 Unlimited categories.

Christina Augustine brought out this sweet 2022 Shelby GTH to the season opener. The car has a whopping 6,500 miles on it already and it’s cool to see one of these rare rides at the track.

In the offseason, Brian Larsen pulled his engine three times to make repairs, but it is rebuilt and ready to go for five of the six races in the Suncoast Performance 8.60 Street Race class. His ProCharged 369-cube small-block is based on a DART block that is backed by a two-speed Powerglide. He and his tuner Brian Freezy is reeling in the tune so the car doesn’t run too fast this weekend.
