With the 18th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA World Finals right around the corner, brothers Daniel and Craig Pachar of Triangle Speed Shop are working around the clock to ready the race cars they're responsible for.
Among them is a chock-full of character 78 Fairmont wagon, which the Orange, Texas-based shop recently prepared for Austin Hickman and which Daniel Pachar will pilot at the end-of-the-season event, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, 2016 at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
It features a 4.6 Modular engine built by Triangle Speed Shop and fronted alternately by 76mm or 94mm Precision turbos, and it rolls on 275 drag radials. While there has been initial testing on the car, those involved are mum on the specifics, but fans can expect to see the car in Edelbrock Renegade or VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw, pending a final decision on which of the two categories it's best suited for.
The unique-looking car was set up for a small-block Chevy by its previous owner, so we modified it for a Mod motor, said Daniel Pachar, who pilots an 04 Mustang with a turbocharged 4.6 Modular engine in VP Racing Fuels Street Outlaw but has been focusing on customers cars with his brother this year. We also did the plumbing for the turbo, ran wiring and installed a Turbo 400 by Proformance Racing Transmissions.
Edelbrock Renegade driver Curtis Catalon is another Triangle Speed Shop customer to keep an eye on at the event in the Bluegrass State, as he hurt his Rich Groh Racing-built turbocharged 4.6 Modular engine at the NMRA event in Illinois in July, but is readying for a return to action in his mid-seven second Mustang. His classmate Dom DiDonato goes to the final race of the season fifth in points and is looking to make a move in his 08 Shelby GT500 powered by a L&M Race Engines-built turbocharged 5.8-based engine tuned by Triangle Speed Shop and C&D Auto Tech.
