Cullember Coming for NMRA Factory Stock

Posted By: Mary Lendzion
After tearing it up in NMRA Pure Street for nearly 13 years, Ron Cullember is preparing to make the move to NMRA Richmond Gear Factory Stock. He has pulled the 311ci pushrod powerplant from the 1990 Mustang in which he was motoring to 9.70s, and will replace it with a Rich Groh Racing Engines-massaged Coyote powerplant featuring stock heads and intake. He'll swap his carburetor for a stock fuel injection set-up, and he'll back the combination with a Tremec TKO 500 transmission and Ace clutch purchased from Black Magic Clutches. I went with that combination because I figured it would make the most power and I thought it would be the most competitive in the class, but it is totally different from what I had been running, said Cullember, who earned a win and finished fourth in Pure Street points in 2016, the final year the class was contested. To be in accordance with class rules, Cullember will add weight to his car to take it from 2900 pounds to 3300 pounds, and while class rules have recently opened up to allow slicks in addition to drag radials, he said he'll likely stick with slicks under the car which will roll on UPR suspension and Afco shocks while flying JPC and Powertrain Products banners. I'm hoping we're just going to be able to put the car on a dyno at JPC, figure out a tune for it and go racing, said Cullember, with a laugh. One of the biggest things will be tuning the Ace clutch, but I'll have some additional help from Cale Aronson of Black Magic Clutches as well as Bruce Hemminger, who will also help with the chassis set-up. Maryland-based Cullember is aiming to have the car which may soon receive a new wrap ready for the 12th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 27-30 at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois, but said if he misses that mark, he'll hit the 19th Annual Nitto NMRA All-Ford World Finals, Sept. 28-Oct. 1 at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Kentucky. I have a lot of good people behind me, including my crew member, Rick Haydan, said Cullember. I'm really excited to get back to racing.
