Oscar Morin Tops EATON Performance TVS Supercharger Throwdown

Posted By: Mike Galimi
The second annual EATON Performance TVS Supercharger Throwdown went down during the Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Drag Racing presented by HPJ Performance, held at the historic World Wide Technology Raceway that is just outside of St. Louis. This year, the format changed to handout $500 to multiple winners on Saturday patterned after the NMRA/NMCA three run average format and a bonus heads-up, four-car shootout on Sunday that paid the winner with a TVS-supercharger system of their choice. Texan Oscar Morin and his 2016 Mustang GT were the big winners by taking the 10-second zone on Saturday and outlasting the competition on Sunday. The VMP supercharged Coyote 5.0L machine completed the three runs with a 10.076 average, which came by way of an 8.671, a traction-limited 12.817, and finally an 8.741. But it was Sunday's performances that earned Morin an EATON TVS-based supercharger that is valued at over $7,000 along with a custom trophy built by SuperchargersOnline.com, that made it a very lucrative weekend. His run to the Aerospace Components Winner's Circle went through some quick street cars. The Quick 4 featured random pairings and Morin lined up with Jason Wagoner in the opening round. Wagoner captured the Overall win for Saturday's competition when he pushed his 2013 Shelby GT500 to a three-run average of 9.084. Morin found himself chasing Wagoner at the green, a .107 reaction time for the GT500 driver and a .149 for the S550 racer. The lead would change quickly, though, as the VMP supercharged combination reeled him in and took the win with an 8.752 at just 140.15 mph to Wagoner's 8.993 at 154.92mph effort. In the finals, Morin lined up against the 9-second 2016 Camaro SS of Chad Walter. The dominant Morin won the round from start-to-finish when he clicked off an 8.766 at just 136.15 mph and Walter posted a 9.690 at 142.54 mph. Saturday's winners included the aforementioned Wagoner, who was the Overall Winner with a 9.084 average. The Overall Runner-Up was Walter, who stopped the clocks with a 10.065 three-run average. Morin was only a click behind with a 10.076 average, earning the 10.00-time-zone win. The final winner was NHRA National Dragster's Senior Editor, Kevin McKenna, as he pushed his 2014 Mustang GT to an 11.051 average that was accomplished with a 10.912, a 10.969, and an 11.273.
